Leveraging People Analytics for Sustainable Growth
Dr. Y. Sekou Bermiss, Associate Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship, UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School
Sustaining high performance requires credit union leaders to develop informed ways of leveraging the talent of their employees which allows their organizations to functional effectively, cope with change, and maintain growth. The emergence of the field of people analytics, in particular, provides a new approach to managing these issues with a focus on data-driven decisions making. Adopting this approach, however, requires significant organizational changes including a shift in how credit union leaders approach issues around people, process, and culture. Boards play an important role in this shift by advocating for improvements in talent management, advising credit union leaders about the available tools, and guiding them through the transition.

Execution: It's More than Simply Getting Things Done
Tony Moore, International Keynote Speaker, Author, and Executive Coach
Execution is one of the hallmarks of a great leader. However, execution is more than the ability to get things done. It is the discipline of ensuring the right things get done at the right time by the right people. Without this discipline, leaders find themselves in the weeds, serving as the primary decision-maker, and impeding efficiency. Regrettably, the discipline of execution eludes many leaders because of the challenge of transitioning from one who does the work to one who ensures work gets done through others. When leaders are promoted without proper preparation, they continue to rely on the skills, competencies, and approach to leadership that made them successful at the previous level. Unfortunately, as in the words of author Marshall Goldsmith, “What got you here, won’t get you there.”
Utilizing humorous lecture, real-life examples, small group discussions, and interactive exercises. This session will walk participants through a proven process to reverse the effects of promotion without preparation. Participants will depart with the tools needed to create a system of execution and reporting mechanisms that ensure the right things get done at the right time by the right people.

The Smart Executive’s Approach to Effective Succession Planning - Part 1
Tony Moore, International Keynote Speaker, Author, and Executive Coach
Few items have the potential to ensure the long-term health, success, and impact of the credit
union movement, like an effective succession plan. Unfortunately, as noted in research by Deloitte,
“86 percent of leaders believe leadership succession planning is an “urgent” or “important” priority,
but only 14 percent believe they do it well.” Additionally, as part of NCUA’s increased focus on the
topic, their analysis of a large subset of credit unions found that roughly one in four credit unions
either lacked or had an inadequate succession plan. Without a formal succession plan, leadership
transitions leave your credit union and the movement vulnerable to disruption, stalled momentum, instability, and a loss of institutional knowledge.
Based on actual experience leading the effort to develop and execute succession planning, this
practical, entertaining, and highly interactive workshop will walk you through our succession
planning story; outlining the deliberate and intentional steps taken, challenges/obstacles
overcome, mistakes made, and systems implemented to drive success. Regardless of where you
are in the process, this session will provide tools to ensure you are focused on the right issues while
also receiving a roadmap to get started.
