Program Details
This high-level, intensive business lending course is designed to fit easily into your schedule.
- Program Length. CUES School of Business Lending runs from April 1-October 31, 2024.
- Format. This course is 100% online, giving you access to the experts without the hassle or expense of travel.
- Time Commitment. Plan on spending 10 hours each week on the course. We’ll be using the NovoED learning management system, which allows you to see estimated time spans for each learning section.
- Process. The curriculum includes due dates to keep everyone on schedule. Attendees will work through each section at their own pace, completing the learning modules to prepare for live sessions with instructors Jim Devine and Bob Hogan.
- Live Sessions. There will be multiple 1-hour live sessions scheduled throughout the course. Live sessions will be recorded and available in NovoEd shortly after the meeting date.
- Assessments. Knowledge checks, quizzes, case studies and discussions will help ensure participants understand the lessons.
Objectives
Unit I: Business Lending Fundamentals gives participants a solid understanding of accounting basics, including a look at how management accounting techniques are used in daily business operations. This course will lay a foundational understanding of business finance, including:
- The Nine Principles of Accounting
- Accounting Systems
- Income Statements—Cost, Price, & Volume Analysis
- Balance Sheets
- Statements of Cash Flow
- Capital Budgeting Techniques
- Entity Structures
- Tax Returns
Objectives
Unit II: Financial Analysis & Diagnostic Assessment provides participants with a solid understanding of best practices for analyzing financial statements. You’ll discover the logic and structure of financial statements, including Balance Sheets, Income Statements, and Statements of Cash Flow. Drawing on the information contained in these documents, you will practice analyses, including Common Sizing, Trend Analysis, and Performance Deviation. In addition, you will:
- Learn how to identify the four stages of the business life cycle
- Explore common borrower situations
- Examine roadblocks to profitability
- Understand the unique risk considerations for different industry sectors
Objectives
During Unit III: Strategic Business Lending, participants will learn how to project future financial performance and determine an entity’s ability to generate cash. You’ll also learn how Balance Sheets and Income Statements are projected, and how to determine Cash Flow availability. You’ll also:
- Discover the nine critical cash determinants in business
- Discuss the SAF law of growth
- Learn how to calculate Sustainable Growth Rates
- Explore ways to evaluate six growth management strategies
- Identify three predominant asset financing patterns
- Explore how to properly structure debt for repayment
- Examine the structure and qualities of effective credit memorandums, including the use of loan covenants
